Glass Heart Princess - Asahina Tenma

Asahina Tenma, the school doctor who’s all about 青春, clearly likes Kyoko and is clearly happy to go on dates with the school’s popular ‘onee-sama’. Interestingly, Tenma is licensed to teach almost all subjects so after summer break, when all the other teachers feel lazy, he fills in for all the classes, haha. So Kyoko falls for Tenma when she realizes how suteki Sensei is while enjoying a nap on his lap as a pillow. Kyoko works up the courage to ask Tenma on a date, who gladly accepts, and Sensei's route starts.

Tenma’s dates are mostly on school grounds from going to his vegetable garden, to making lunch in the cafeteria, and talking about the school’s seven mysteries. One funny note is how one of the mysteries is that Tenma is a sextuplet (six identical siblings) and that’s how he can teach 6 different classes on certain days, lol. The level up date is when Kyoko dazed slightly twists her ankle going down the stairs. Tenma happens to see this happen and rushes over to お姫様抱っこ Kyoko out the window to head straight for the infirmary. Even though he's a teacher, Tenma is completely fine with telling everyone that he likes Kyoko that for one event he even brings her a bouquet of red roses and confesses in the middle of a classroom. Tenma confesses that he has something to tell her but only after graduation so he asks that Kyoko to wait. Tenma can seem to be pretty childish at times but he is a  proper adult nevertheless. So when Kyoko sleeps over in the infirmary and suggests that Tenma stay in the same room he gives her a warning. Tenma pin her down on one of the beds, for a nice cg, and tells her that he’s a man so she should be more careful. With this Kyoko becomes more aware that Tenma is an adult after all. For Christmas, Tenma can’t celebrate it due to family reasons just like how he can’t handle tomatoes and garlic, so instead they build an igloo and just have hotpot or cake inside. For the new years, Kyoko has a dream where Tenma is protecting her as a member of the Shinsengumi, and tells her to go find Yukimura but don’t interrupt if the mood is getting nice with either Okita or Toudou, lmao I don’t think a Hakuouki parody could get any more obvious than that haha.

Tenma’s story starts when one of Kyoko’s friends, groupie, gets attacked at school at night by someone calling himself a vampire. For her friend, Kyoko wants to act as bait thus convinces Tenma to help, along with Shinnosuke, despite the fact he was against putting her in danger. Just as they give up for that night and Kyoko goes to the bathroom by herself, the ‘vampire’ attacks Kyoko and makes a small cut to her neck. Before things get worse, bats swarm in and Tenma, with long hair pale skin and strange powers, appears and protects Kyoko. Tenma reveals that he’s a vampire and the attacker is just a student from the occult club who wants to turn into a vampire. Now Tenma is worried that Kyoko is afraid of him but she reassures him that she doesn’t because he’s still him. Tenma is happy to hear this so confesses that he loves Kyoko and if she would become a vampire to be with him forever. Hearing this, Kyoko asks for time to think about it since it’s not something that should be taken lightly, so they continue things as before.

One day, some gangster asks their family boss, Tenma, to return to his position as head again but Tenma tells them he enjoys being a teacher. On the next date, Tenma brings Kyoko on a date outside of school because he finally could after transforming and breaking the seal the school chairman placed on him that trapped Tenma at school. Having been stuck at school for so long, Tenma enjoys being outside and since he’s already confessed Tenma wants to be more intimate with Kyoko, in other words a kiss. But before they can, Tenma notices something and rushes to find his underlings being beaten up by another gang. Tenma beats the crap out of the other guys when Kyoko shows up shocked/scared to see Tenma act so differently and so rejects his offer to become a vampire. A heartbroken Tenma tells his underlings that he’ll go back with them since he doesn’t have a reason to stay anymore. At school, Kyoko finds a letter from Tenma saying how he’s sorry for leaving so suddenly and he requests for Kyoko to help take care of his garden because he'd really regret letting them just die. Then after school as Shinnosuke and Kyoko walk home, they are attacked by a wolf but Shinnosuke forces it to retreat. The next day as Kyoko goes to take care of the garden, but it’s been ruined and wolves appear. Turns out they're werewolves and the rivaling family to Tenma’s and their leader, Gino, has a grudge so he’s here for revenge on Tenma. So Gino kidnaps Kyoko and calls Tenma to challenge him to a fight. At night Tenma shows up saying he'll kill himself if they don't let Kyoko go, but Gino goes like “wait, no, I want to fight first” and orders his underlings to release Kyoko. With Kyoko safe, Tenma gladly fights with Gino but because he's been sealed for decades Tenma gets his ass kicked and is almost killed until Kyoko jumps in to protect him getting is fatally injured. Tenma is confused as to why she'd protect him so Kyoko confesses that she loves him and wants him to ask her 'that question' again but makes him promise that he’ll always be with her. Tenma promises he’ll stop fighting, that he’ll go back to being a teacher, and so changes Kyoko into a vampire. 

Gino shows up complaining how he left them alone to say their farewells not let Tenma change Kyoko and drink her blood, but now a fully recovered Tenma is pissed and asks Kyoko if he could fight just this one last time, haha. This time Tenma completely kicks Gino’s ass, who looks for back up but Shinnosuke with the help of a friend from the Vatican already took out the other werewolves, lol. Getting beaten up Gino loses his powers and reverts to a puppy form, and Tenma admits that it’s been his dream, in addition to having that rugby team of delinquents, to raise a school dog so Shinnosuke volunteers to train Gino into a dog suitable for his ojousama, haha even Kyoko feels sorry for Gino. In the ending it’s 4 years later, Kyoko is now the teacher/school doctor and Tenma is the school chairman. Kyoko comments how her students are young fresh and look delicious, haha, Tenma slightly worried offers his blood as he drinks her’s.

Tenma’s story was cliche thanks a certain series about vampires and werewolves, sigh. If you could just stop rolling your eyes because of the plot, Tenma himself was likeable character. He does as he pleases, especially with the other characters, mainly Yukito, but clearly tries his best to appeal to Kyoko while being sweet about it. Honestly though the plot was whatever and it felt like they tried to mix a lot of things together, I mean shota + teacher + mafia families + vampires + werewolves but it wasn't bad. Also at first I didn't like him too much and I thought Hatano’s voice didn't really suit his appearance but Tenma grew on me. Tenma is similar to Haruki-sensei from Starry Sky, but definitely more likeable and more seishun silly that he’s constantly been trying to recruit Yukito into his delinquent rugby team lol. Vampire finished, onwards to phantom thief.
