Glass Heart Princess - Hoshino Kanata

Hoshino Kanata, the 'spacey' character who from your first meeting clearly isn't your average human being, (get it spacey). On her hunt for someone to fall in love with, Kyoko goes through the student body and faculty without falling for anyone. As a final resort, she goes to the rumored tree where if two people meet there then they are fated to be together. Kyoko waits under the tree but as she's about to give up something falls from the sky and hits her on the head knocking her unconscious. Kyoko wakes up to an unfamiliar guy wearing the school uniform laying on the ground. Hoshino introduces himself and starts chating with the alien doll on his shoulder, which is incomprehensible because words are beeped out, and then as if the tv got turned off the screen turns black. Afterwards Kyoko wakes up, recognizing Hoshino as her classmate and without finding anything odd, Kyoko just goes on with her plan to ask him out on a date thinking he's her fated person, and with this we start Hoshino Kanata's route.

Hoshino’s dates mostly involve his wanting to investigate/survey things and places, like trying out the school lunch, going to the park, going to the arcade, checking out the clubs at school, and going to the mall. Hoshino tends to say strange things to which he usually follows up by saying “...I mean it's a joke.” Then at other times Hoshino does unexpected things like feeding Kyoko, and wanting to look at engagement rings, lol all of which is of course is a little too much for Kyoko's glass heart to handle.

The level up date is when Hoshino wants to go see the beach/ocean to investigate so he leaves Kyouko alone even though it’s a date. Nearby Kyoko notices a child’s ball falls into the waters so she tries to retrieve it but falls in, by the way it’s fall/winter so Kyoko is drowning. Meanwhile, Hoshino is surveying things with his alien friend when he wonders whether it was okay to leave Kyoko alone and suddenly he feels her calling him. With special powers, Hoshino clears the water around Kyoko saving her from drowning and is relieved to see her safe. With this it’s clear that Hoshino has some feelings for Kyoko and the dates continue. For the new year’s dream, Kyoko is sitting on top of a Hoshino who is acting as a horse and is calling Kyoko ‘oshishou-sama,’ lol SYK parody because Miyata Kouki also voices Gyokuryuu. 

Hoshino’s story starts with Hoshino inviting Kyoko on a date at his place, where at every chance he faces Kyoko with his eyes closed expected something haha. Hoshino admits he wants to kiss to see whether or not he really likes Kyoko. However the sudden kiss is still too much for Kyoko to handle and her heart stops... Just when she thinks she's a goner, a strange mechanical beeping starts, and Kyoko is still alive thanks to Hoshino. Hoshino gave Kyoko a new heart because even he couldn't fix her broken one. With everything that's happened, Hoshino reveals that he’s not from this planet (shocking lol) in fact he’s an android sent by ‘aliens’ to investigate Earth and he saved Kyoko because it would have been bad if a human died because of him but also because Hoshino personally didn't want that either. Now with a new heart, Kyoko worries whether or not anything will change but Hoshino reassures her that the only difference is that she has to do a maintenance check, which involves him hugging her, once everyday or else her heart will explode, literally as in wipe the planet off the face of the universe explosion, lol. 

With everything settled, they plan to continue going on dates and having maintenance checks but Hoshino starts to clearly act stranger than usual like being in sleep mode when meeting up, eating enough curry for about 20 people, and then just completely shutting down. With Hoshino unconscious, Kyoko brings him to her house and reveals everything to Shinnosuke hoping that he can help Hoshino. Shinnosuke is unfazed and easily accepts the truth and is just simply excited to see such a well made android, lol. Anyways while examining Hoshino, they discover an extra empty heart shaped space in his chest, and Kyoko realizes that he gave her his heart, and that’s what's causing Hoshino to act weird. Hoshino wakes up, admits that he’s acting weird and says he’ll contact the mothership to get himself fixed up however he doesn't have enough energy to so Shinnosuke suggests going to Area 51, lol, and using their facilities to make contact. They go but the scientists plot to experiment with Hoshino and Kyoko’s heart instead of helping. Shinnosuke saves Kyoko, who runs to save Hoshino, waking him up in time for him to send all the scientists flying, wipe everyone’s memories of him, and make contact.

Kyoko wakes up in her room as if nothing has happened, and does her daily maintenance with the alien doll? she had gotten with Hoshino at the arcade before. She goes to school having completely forgotten Hoshino but she feels that something important is missing. Satsuki tells her to follow her heart and go figure out what’s wrong, so Kyoko visits all the places they went to on their dates. Finally she goes to the tree where she first met Hoshino, and remembers meeting someone important here with that she remembers Hoshino and runs looking for him. Hoshino shows up, at the park he liked, wondering why Kyoko is there and shocked to see that she remember hims. He confesses that he wiped her memories of him so she wouldn't be in danger because of him again but not being able to see and spend time with Kyoko made him really sad so he’s glad she remembers. To make it up to her, Hoshino offers her a ride on a bicycle because he was told by someone back home that it’s one of the things he definitely has to try, and because he can really ride it he makes it float in the sky instead, LOL. The mothership arrives and as the light appears to bring Hoshino back, he asks if they can have a proper kiss this time and with that Hoshino disappears... leaving Kyoko stuck in the sky, rofl. Hoshino shows up again like ‘oops btw the bike will automatically land’ and apparently the aliens retort on how he totally ruined the mood, haha. In the ending, a few months later Kyoko receives a large package with Hoshino inside. So he was sent back indefinitely because his report wasn’t good enough, haha, also he said that various reasons he needs to be humans so they made him human, ?!.

Kanata: Eh? I ruined the mood? ......it seems like, you've fit in here more than me?

The ending was really sweet, enough to just ignore how illogical it is for him to become human, haha. I liked Hoshino despite the fact there weren't that many romantic moments. Hoshino was a sweet clumsy character that knew less about love than Kyoko so watching the development between the two was fun. Plus Hoshino is pretty misinformed about various things and so had a bunch of funny moments. One really nice plus of his was his scene when Kyoko’s father bursts in on Hoshino coming out of the bath and Kyoko falls on top of a naked Hoshino, hehe. Warning though Hoshino has a lot of choices where Kyoko ends up with a broken heart, so the backlog is your friend! Now alien done moving on, next vampire!
